Climate Justice

The AAPI Victory Alliance is proud to host an event in the fall of 2023 focused on climate justice. Sign up for our newsletter to stay informed or contact us at info@aapivictoryalliance.com to find out how you can get involved.

AAPI Victory Alliance is committed to building a world where climate change no longer threatens our livelihoods, and our families can enjoy clean air, water and land. This is a core focus for us because Asian American and Pacific Islander communities face unique barriers to both climate change awareness and inclusive reform. Further, similar to other communities of color, we face disproportionately high exposure to pollutants.

  • AAPI are also disproportionately impacted by the harms of segregation and pollution

  • This has resulted in disproportionately poorer health outcomes between different AAPI ethnicities for different conditions, for example lung cancer and asthma, because health insurance coverage rates also vary widely between ethnic communities.

  • While Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities have long sounded the alarm about climate change’s devastating effects - they have often not had a seat at the table during critical conversations.

  • In addition to environmental displacement, the very livelihoods of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities will be threatened if we do not mitigate rising sea levels and environmental degradation.

  • Consistent with projections from climate experts, an increase in extreme weather phenomena in the continental United States has led to devastating and sometimes deadly outcomes for low-income AAPI communities who tend to lack resources and options in addressing inclement weather.

  • AAPI Victory Alliance’s commitment to data disaggregation is critical to educating policy makers and others on how important climate justice is for the AAPI community, and underscoring our community’s unique and diverse needs.
